Young Married's Mexican dinner

The first Sunday of every second month (wow what a mouthful), the young married people at our church get together for a pig out - I mean dinner party. It is nice that people still consider Simon and I to be young married's seeing as we are both in our 30s but I am in charge of organising the dinners so I couldn't well do that and not invite myself.

On Sunday night we held a Mexican theme night at Mel and Dean Corona's house in Weegeena. Dean comes from Mexico so we decided to give him a little taste of home. We had some amazing traditional dishes, some not too hot and some very spicy. Luckily Mel warned us about the hot ones. Everyone brought something to share so of course as always there was plenty to go around.

We usually have about eight couples at these dinners and all our kids so it makes for a very lively evening. After tea we needed a rest before dessert so we played a game. Everyone sits in a circle and one person chooses something like a sports brand. ie-Nike. Then they go around the room and stand in front of each person with a spray bottle of water. The person sitting down has ten seconds to say a sports brand and if they say Nike, they get sprayed in the face with water. It's then their turn to think of something. It was hilarious. The funniest one which had Allen in tears of laughter is when i picked a country beginning with 'A'. No-one could get it and soon we were running out of countries. Finally I said, 'Alaska' and everyone cracked up because Alaska is of course a state of America and not a country at all. I was thinking how clever I was and Allen was in fits of laughter, particularly as he is American. Emma said, 'well what kind of country is that to have a state that is by itself way above Canada?' I had to agree.

After an amazing dessert of Toblerone cheesecake and a four-layered chocolate cake we all left groaning and complaining about having eaten too much food but as the next dinner date rolls around, we will once eagerly fill our stomachs with food and have plenty of laughs and fun.

Thankyou Jackie for opening your house up to us. (Jackie is Mel's Mum). And thankyou too Katherine for helping here with the dishes.
