Happy birthday Hallie

Today we celebrated Hallie's 5th birthday. She had been excited for weeks and finally today came. She got a baby seat for the back of her bike to put her doll in when we ride to school to pick up Sarra.

The mandatory spiderman paraphernalia was included too. Simon took Oliver to the block for the day to give Hallie some peace and quiet time with her pressies because he was getting mad that it was not his birthday and tried to take over the day as you can tell from some of the photos.

Noone's getting this present off me

For tea Hallie wanted sausages on the barby, potato chips, baked potato, carrot and peas and corn. Okay!

For the cake I decorated it with 'green goblin' icing and put the green goblin(out of Spiderman 1) on the top. She loved it. Hallie thinks she is really old and no doubt half a decade sounds old when you're young.

Oliver's favourite pose

Most often than not when you look at Oliver, this is what you will see. He has been doing this ever since he was a baby and no matter how much we discourage it, his finger always finds its way up his nose. When he is tired this is how he puts himself to sleep. The annoying thing though is with the two middle fingers in his mouth, Oliver makes this really loud slurping sound which can be very annoying when he has found his way into your bed in the middle of the night. I hope he does not take the habit on like one of my sister's who was still sucking her thumb in highschool. Can you guess who?

Time to "fess" up

Oh dear You all know me so well. I have no idea how to use photoshop and really have no desire how to learn. Yes I too have joined the pregnancy bandwagon. The baby is due on Nov 7, making me 12 wks pregnant.

On Tue morning I had a CVS (chorionic villus sampling) where they put a needle into the placenta and draw out some cells to test the genetics of the baby to see if it has Hallie's condition. It is a little complicated but everytime I fall pregnant there is a 1 in 4 chance it will have CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia). I have to have this test because if the baby is a girl with CAH, I need to stay on a drug called dexamethosone until she is born. This negates the need for surgery after her birth, unlike Hallie who needed the surgery because we did not know she had the condition. This is the beauty of knowing for future pregnancies. If it is a boy with CAH, I can go off the drug because boys with the condition do not need surgery. Regardles of the sex if it has CAH, then after birth they will need to follow the same process as Hallie and be on meds and closely monitored for the rest of their life. Simple eh?

So this morning I got a call about the sex of the baby. (It takes another 10 days to find out whether it has CAH).

Drum roll please..................................................................................................................

The magic of photoshop

With all my blogger friends being pregnant and having babies I thought I would play around with photoshop so I could be in tune with how they were feeling (ha,ha). And look what I came up with!!

Gappy Grin

I thought I had better record this riveting news today. Seeing as how we are keeping digital journals and Sarra would absolutely kill me if I had not recorded it............. today she lost her first FRONT tooth.

It happened at school "a couple of minutes after lunch". She is hoping the tooth fairy will bring her $20. I know, surely inflation has not gone up that much since I was visited by the tooth fairy. Her reasoning is because it's one of the BIG teeth. Gee I was thinking something like $2. Is that too stingy? What do other tooth fairies do in other households? I better confer with the tooth fairy about a price.

Oh and that thing on her forehead is a butterfly tattoo.

Look at these cuties

Penny sent us these photos of spring in Canada. She said the spring weather and melting snow was great for building snowmen.

And a little bit of Australia was in Canada with the Wiggles going on tour. Penny said the kids loved it and Sam was most upset when it was finished. Gee those Wiggles get around.

Targa Tasmania

Yesterday Simon took Oliver and Hallie to Dunorlan for stage 19 of Targa Tasmania. He met up with Jasen, Eden and Levi who had a good possy in which to view the cars from.

The boys did a bit of trespassing and set some chairs and a barby on top of a Telstra building to catch a bird's eye view of each car as it whizzed past. Only something true blue "Deloraine boys" would come up with.

It did not take long for Oliver and Hallie to get bored so they just watched a video in the car. I think it was more an outing for Simon.

Daddy Day Care

Look what happens when Daddy offers to be in charge of tea while I was at our Enrichment meeting. I could pretend and say the floor was clean but even washed there is still microscopic germies that we can't see. Ooh gross!! I suppose Simon thought he was saving himself dishes and pack away table jobs. Needless to say the kids thought it was great fun. You can tell I wasn't home as Mums would never allow this.

Swimming lessons are over

Sarra and Hallie have been having swimming lessons every Monday and Wednesday and they are now officially over. They were held at the Hagley Farm school which I fondly remember visiting in my early school years. It was always fun to go there on school excursions and see the animals. I felt so old now taking my own kids there.

Hallie started off in the goldfish group and was soon out on her own doing dives to the bottom of the pool and swimming out on her own. I think the teacher was expecting her to be like Sarra , very cautious and careful but no as we know Hallie is the exact opposite.

She has decided that when she grows up she wants to be a professional skateboarder. She got a skateboard for Christmas and is already doing tricks on it. She has now set up jumps too for her bike. Great! It helps that she is very good at all this stuff and has this uncanny ability of being very nimble and balanced on her feet.

Hallie completely under the water
We took her to her endocrinologist last week and she has finally hit 100cm tall, still on the 3rd percentile but "tracking nicely along it" It was a crack-up as Prof Werther had two med students there with him and kept asking them questions about Hallie's condition. They never knew the answers but I did and kept wanting to put up my hand. For a minute I felt smart, but then of course I would know everything about it. When they moved on to other medical topics, it went straight over the ole head.

Anyway back to swimming. Sarra is now in the seahorse group and is becoming alot more confident with her swimming. Not long now and she will be learning stroke technique. But because it is all so expensive and there are now only winter classes in Launceston, they won't be going again until next year. I hope it is not lost on them.

Lamentations of a slacker

My latest excuse for not posting is I have lost my camera charger. Arrgh!! I have these amazing shots on my camera cos we all know what a fantastic photographer I am and I can't post them. I have done the whole retrace your steps from when you last used it but the thing has just puffed into thin air. So what to do!! Hmm i spose I can post some old photos but that would be a bit boring.

Hang on, here are some shots of Oliver's birthday cake that I did not put on because I thought you would all be jealous of the cake I made and want to copy it. See the whole visual effect of not even taking it out of the tin. Maybe you could add that to Recipe Monday Tone. Thankgoodness my kids are not old enough yet to be embarrassed by my non cake making abilities.
