Visit at Nan and Pop's house

Yesterday Hallie and I went to Nan and Pop Triffitt's to pick up Oliver who had been staying with Oma and Poppy. They had come up to Deloraine to do some gardening at Nan and Pop's and so it was an opportune time to meet to pick up Oliver.

Oma said Oliver 'never stopped'. He certainly is a ball of energy. She took him to the beach and he was quite happily playing and then suddenly ran into the water, clothes and all. It was very quiet and peaceful with just Hallie at home while Sarra was at school. No fighting or whingeing - it was just heavenly.

Thankyou Oma!

Pig Out Fest!

Last night we held our our Young Married's fastbreaker. Bishop had asked me to organise it for our ward and I was like - easy peasy!! Food and socialising - That's my thing. So every second fast Sunday we meet at someone's house and have a pot luck fastbreaker.

Mel and Dean
Last night we met at Levi and Lousie's - no Mexican theme this time and it was a wonderful evening. I told everyone that I was not talking to anybody until I had eaten. The funny thing is when I was first organising the group I thought there should be an age limit like 19-30yrs but then after realising I am sadly now 33, I upped the limit to 35. As the organiser of the idea I did not want to miss out on all the fun.

Levi, Will, Louise and Toni
Last night we played a joke on Jaron. Toni told us that ever since he was little, he has absolutely detested pumpkin. Toni cuts it up real small and disguises it in dishes as carrot so he will eat it.

Mel cooked this divine spicy pumpkin roll dessert (her husband Dean is American so everything is pumpkin this month in the lead up to Halloween) and we did not tell Jaron what was in it. He actually had two helpings, he liked it that much.

When Toni told him it was actually pumpkin, we all could not stop laughing. He did not want to admit that he liked it - it was a classic.

Tash and Tom
Simon was our half-time entertainment. The kids queued up for a turn being swung up from his feet and over his head. Everyone always thinks Simon is quiet and serious but tonight they got to see what he is really like. Our kids are always at him for wrestles.

All the kids loved playing with Will's baby toys. Poor Will I hope he has recovered from having his house taken over by crazy kids. I think he is used to things a little bit quieter.

It was a great evening with great food and great company - what more could you ask for. This morning I had to go to the gym to make up for my double helpings of dessert - there is always a catch isn't there!!

Happy Birthday Oscar

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OSCAR
Today we went to the train park in Deloraine for Oscar's 2nd birthday party. He absolutely loves trains so it was perfect to have his party there. Thankfully the weather held off and it was not even windy.

The biggest attraction was this motorised bubble blower which Oliver whinged and whinged until he got a turn. It blew heaps of bubbles and all the kids loved it.

Oscar got some lovely presents but I think his favourite was a little orange Thomas train which had magnets on each end which Oscar discovered stuck to the bars of the playground. it was so funny! All his little friends were off playing and Oscar was sitting by himself in the playground amusing himself by sticking the train to the bars on the playground fence.

The train cake was superb and Toni did a great job. I don't know when she fitted the time in with a brand new baby. It was very yummy!

Oliver did his usual trick of chasing the ducks and you can tell he loved the cake, wearing most of it as he chowed into it.

He's a bit heavy isn't he Taylor?

Yummy Risotto

Last night I went to a church cooking class. As you can see from my lemon tart, I need all the help I can get. It was a wonderful night. I am a bit of a socialite and I find it so therapeutic to get out by myself... no little munchkins tagging along (rare I know) and sit and relax and gasbag with friends.

Last night Toni was our guest chef and showed us how to do a lovely scrumptious risotto.

We sat around and talked and laughed. It is wonderful to just relax as usually, particularly with church friends, we are all so busy and when we see each other we are usually in the middle of doing something at church so it is lovely to spend some quality time doing stuff like this. It is also a great way to get to know people outside of the Sunday church environment.

Quilting update

Today after going to the gym with Lisa, I met Mel and Jackie and we went to Spotlight to finish off getting the material for my quilt. They had a few things they wanted to get there so it was great to all go together.

I bribed Hallie to be good by promising we would all go to McDonalds for lunch if she behaved and did not run around in Spotlight. Oliver is still a little young to understand a good bribe which can be annoying because I knew i wanted to concentrate on picking a fabric to do my hearts on the quilt which matched my nine square blocks. It is hard to do that and have eyes like an eagle and in the back of your head to make sure he does not run off. If that happens about 5 minutes later, I hear this 'Mum', 'Mum' yelled out at the top of his voice as he tries to find me.

Sometimes I get looks from other people and I would dearly like to say 'what' back but that would be rude wouldn't it. So i kinda just grimace at them. Thankgoodness Jackie and Mel were there because the instructions I got from Vicki on measurements for different things were straightforward but me... well clueless is a word that springs to mind.

All those little 3 inch by 3 inch squares I cut out and sewed together to make the 9 square blocks. I then cut out the 4 borders, 20 each of 3 inch by 41/2 inch rectangles and sewed them together. Now I have to cut out the hearts (with the reddish/brown material) that go on the big squares of calico and applique that - once I learn how that is. I am trying to get an old-fashioned look here with the colours I chose. I wonder if that will be achieved in the end. A couple more borders, some applique, backing, wadding and quilting - there it sounds easy....AAHHH!!

Did I mention that Mel and Jackie have finished their quilts and Mel is onto her second. I am sure I am the slowest in our quilting class but our teachers Vicki and Phyllis are so patient and I have always wanted to learn quilting.

Once we got everything and browsed around for a bit, we took the kids to McDonalds where they could finally let off some of that energy.

At 1.30pm we went to the hospital for another review of Hallie's arm. Finally the cast was off after 5 weeks and gets to stay off. The break is not compleetely healed yet but as long as she does not do too much climbing, jumping etc, the doctor just said to come back in 6 wks for a check-up. And yes I did tell him our nickname for her is 'monkey' because she is such a climber and daredevil but he seems to think the risk is worth it.

Toni's lemon tart

Last night I attempted to make one of Toni's 'Recipe Monday' recipes. Mum and Dad Triffitt came for tea on Sunday night and brought some beautiful lemons from their lemon tree. I love getting fruit and vegetables from their garden. They are so fresh and tasty. We really appreciate it.

So with these big juicy lemons I decided to make Toni's lemon tart.

This is how it is supposed to turn out....

This is how it turned out for me.....

It looked so funny, I almost had tears rolling down my cheeks from laughing so much but Simon said it still tasted very yummy. I suppose that is all that matters. I have been too scared to try it.

Best friends

Today after school, Sarra's best friend Naomi and her sister Abi came home for a play. Their Mum is a midwife at the LGH so every now and again these guys get to come home with us after school until Brenda finishes work. Sarra gets very excited when Naomi comes to play and yes a little bit silly too.

Hallie has now got Oliver in on the superhero 'lets never take our costumes off' idea and so now he is living in the Superman outifit.

Abi decided to try and get him to fly just like Superman which might prove a little dangerous if Oliver tries it on his own. Hallie decided to try some jumping just like Spiderman does from building to building.

While they were playing and running a muck in the loungeroom I made some oatmeal choc chip biscuits. The batch makes 112 so there was plenty to go around the little munchkins. The recipe is from my friend Mel who takes our cooking class at church and they are so yummy. Now whenever I make something that Simon likes he asks whether it is one of Mel's recipes.

This police house was small enough with one superhero. I don't know if the bricks and mortar will be able to handle two.
